An exciting opportunity is available for Consultant Psychiatrists to join a specialist mental health and alcohol and other drugs service in the Northern Territory.

This is a 24-month fixed-term opportunity offering the chance to provide specialist psychiatric care while contributing to medical education and postgraduate psychiatry training.

The Role

You will provide specialist psychiatric clinical services within a comprehensive mental health and alcohol and other drugs service.

The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the broader medical education program, including undergraduate psychiatry teaching and postgraduate training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment
• Delivering high-quality clinical care to patients with complex mental health needs
• Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary mental health teams
• Contributing to clinical planning, review and ongoing patient management
• Providing specialist advice and consultation to other healthcare professionals
• Participating in teaching and education of medical students
• Contributing to the postgraduate psychiatry training program
• Supporting clinical governance, quality improvement and professional development
• Participating in relevant service activities and professional responsibilities

What We’re Looking For

• Specialist registration with AHPRA or eligibility for specialist registration
• Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent specialist qualification
• Demonstrated experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist
• Experience across a range of psychiatric presentations
• Strong clinical assessment and treatment-planning skills
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Commitment to teaching, supervision and professional development
• Ability to work effectively within a complex mental health service

The successful applicant will be appointed at either Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist level, depending on their qualifications, skills and experience.
